As Senior Chaplain of Indian Path Medical Center, Thomas is responsible for overseeing the emotional and spiritual health of patients, their families, and Team Members. He achieves this through clinical assessment and treatment as well as directing the recruitment and development of Spiritual Care Volunteers. Thomas sits as chairperson of the Ethics Committee and serves as a system wide consultant for Center for Diversity at Mountain States Health Alliance. He is also an adjunct faculty member at Kentucky Christian University, teaching in the area of bioethics.
Thomas holds a Bachelor of Science in social work from California State University, Chico, a Master of Divinity with emphasis on care and counseling from Emmanuel Christian Seminary, and a Master of Science in clinical counseling from Milligan College. Thomas is ordained by the Independent Christian Church and Board Certified by the Association of Professional Chaplains. In addition, he is a Team Member with the John Maxwell Group, a leadership company dedicated to excellence in coaching, training, and speaking.
Prior to arriving in East Tennessee, Thomas lived in Northern California. While there, he worked and volunteered for various organizations in the human service related field including California State University, Chico, Boys and Girls Club, Youth for Change, Wolf Mountain, The Domestic Violence and Sexual Assult Coalition, Court Appointed Special Advocates, and Community Action Volunteers in Education.
Outside of his domestic and professional responsibilities, Thomas currently serves his community as a member of First Christian Church, Johnson City. He is a troop leader for the Girl Scouts of Southern Appalachia and a Chaplain for Trail Life troop 110. He is also an active member of Rotary Downtown Kingsport, Professionals Engaged in Advancing Kingsport, Leadership Kingsport, and F3 Northeast Tennessee. Thomas has partnered with additional agencies such as Covenant Counseling and United Way of Greater Kingsport to provide counseling services, consultation, and community member support.
A husband and father of three, Thomas is committed to his family. He sees one of his greatest responsibilities as serving his home. Because he is passionate about education, fitness, and outdoors, Thomas combines these interests by getting outside with his children to hike, run, and play sports.
